Instagram bores have a point
Photographing your food makes it taste better, scientists say.
There is a circle of hell reserved for people who regularly post pictures of their dinner on Instagram.
Not a very deep circle obviously, but perhaps somewhere between standing on the left on an escalator and describing anything other than a rainforest as ‘lush’.
However, research suggests taking a photo of your food before you eat it actually makes it taste better.
The study, published in Psychological Science and entitled ‘Rituals Enhance Consumption’, suggests your senses are heightened by taking a picture because you become more focused and ‘in the moment’.
As a result, you appreciate the food more and believe it tastes better than it would have if you hadn’t spent ten minutes searching for the perfect filter to represent a crap ham sandwich.
This improvement then encourages the Instagrammer to continue this godforsaken practice, and so an Instagram food spammer is born.
Unfortunately, this joy only applies to the person taking a picture. For everyone else, it’s just a nauseating nuisance.
