It’s the students-only app taking UK unis by storm. JumpIn allows scrimpers to save money with fixed fares and helps them to meet up with other students heading to the same destination.
The JumpIn app, available for free on iOS and Android, was founded by three students from the University of Leeds who saw the need for taxi sharing app after taking two separate taxis to the same bar in Leeds. The app has since evolved into a booking and sharing solution, tailored specifically for students with features such as group bookings, closed community sharing, fixed fares and nightclub partnerships.

The app caused a stir in Leeds when it emerged students were using it to have no-strings-attached sex after nights out. Speaking to The Tab, JumpIn founder Sam Ryan said “We certainly didn’t think it would be used for anything like this! We’re providing a safe, cheap and sociable way for students to travel and if we do a bit of match-making a long the way, that’s just a bonus I guess.”
The money saving app, originally launched in Leeds, is now operating in Nottingham and Newcastle, and soon to pop up in Birmingham and Liverpool.
