Abi Cobby, 18 – Exeter
The Queen of As, apparently
Subjects: Sociology, Psychology, and History
What did you get? I’m the A Queen, straights As.
How are you going to celebrate? Going to Tiger Tiger in Portsmouth and just ‘aving it large.
What are you drinking? Malibu and Coke, or whatever’s strongest.
Did you have much pressure from mum and dad? Nah not really, as long as I’m happy
What’s the most uni word you know? I don’t even know what that means.
Alice Hitchcock, 18 – Royal Holloway
She was crying, which I think was a good thing
What did you study: Psychology, Media studies and English Lit.
What did you get: AAA*
Did you have much pressure from your parents before results day: Yes, more from my dad but my mum was happy with whatever I got. Both knew I worked hard for whatever grades I ended up with.
How often will you call your mum? Probably a lot to start with as I will want her to know all the stuff I’ll be doing.
How are you going to celebrate tonight? Going out to Tiger Tiger and meal out with family.
What are you drinking? Coke and vodka or whatever everyone else is.
Heels or high tops? High tops.
What will your first meal be? Beans on toast is a favourite at the moment.
Are you nervous about meeting your new flatmates? Extremely. I’m worried they won’t like me.
What’s the most uni word you know? Hangover
Ben, 19 – Astrophysics at Surrey

How did you do? ABB in Maths, Physics and English Literature.
What are you doing tonight? Just going to the pub, same as last year when I didn’t get in.
What are you most excited about? Meeting new people and that.
Are you gonna miss home? I don’t know, maybe.
Are you looking forward to freshers? Yeah it’ll be alright.
What will your first meal be? We’re getting Chinese tonight.
I mean, at university? Probably just get a Chinese again I reckon.
Michael Saunders, 18 – Automotive Engineering at Bath

What did you get? 3A*s and an A in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Spanish.
Very impressive. I know.
What are you doing tonight? Not a lot probably.
When did you wake up this morning? I woke up at six, got very nervous I’d miss both my choices.
How often will you go out in freshers? Obviously I’ve got no idea.
What will your first meal be? Probably pasta.
What’s the most uni word you know? I’m not sure I understand what that means.
Harvey, 18 – Southampton

How did you do? 3Bs, in Maths, Chemistry, and Biology.
Where are you heading? Southampton, but they said on UCAS this morning that they’d changed my course, which was pretty stressful, but it was just an error I think.
How are you gonna celebrate tonight? Tiger Tiger.
How often do you think you’ll go out? My brother said at the beginning it’s every night, but I don’t know.
Do you think you’ll miss home? To a degree, doing my own washing will be annoying but I’m excited.
Did your parents put much pressure on you? The right amount, I was disappointed by my AS’s so I buckled down and now I’m happy.
What’s your style gonna be? General coolness.
What’s the most university word you know? Uni, that’s pretty university.
Sam Jones, 17 – Mechanical Engineering at Surrey

How are you going to celebrate tonight then? I don’t know yet, I haven’t thought about it, I was more worried about my results.
What grades did you get? A* in Maths, and As in further and physics
First meal? Probably beans on toast.
How often will your parents visit? I don’t know, once a month.
What’s gonna be your style? Shorts and T-shirt, maybe if it gets colder jumper and trousers.
How often do you think you’ll go out a week? Twice, maybe, I don’t know.
Do you know any university slang? No.
Tomás Gilbert – History and Politics, Leicester
Are you excited about going to uni? Yeah, really excited to get out of this place [Hull] it’s a shithole.
What are your plans for freshers’ week? Alcohol, that’s where I’m going now- down to the pub.
How would you describe yourself in one uni-related word? Mexican.
Esther – English Literature and French, Birmingham
Which part of uni are you most excited about? I think my course will be really exciting, I’m looking forward to moving away from home and doing my own thing.
Are you going to join any societies? I think the drama and music societies.
Can you describe yourself in one uni-related word? Committed.
Hannah – Music, Leeds
Which part of uni are you most excited about? Looking at new sections of my course, like music psychology.
What are your plans for freshers’ week? I might go out every other night, I don’t want to overload myself.
Are you going to join any societies? I want to join the Christian Union, and I might try something like Ballroom Society- just for fun.
Chris – Not going to uni
Are you happy with your results? Yeah, pretty happy, I’m going to look for an apprenticeship now.
Why didn’t you want to go to uni? It’s just boring, isn’t it? I don’t think I’m missing out on anything.
How would you describe yourself? A belter.
Will – Not going to uni
Were you planning on going to uni? Yeah, I was going to study Philosophy and Politics at Edinburgh, but I didn’t get in.
Do you think you’ll go through clearing? I don’t think so, I’m not really bothered about uni. I didn’t even turn up to one of my exams.
What will you do now? Go and look for a job, something in admin, I think I could be a good sexy assistant somewhere.
Cameron – Data Sciences, Nottingham
Are you excited about uni? I’m really excited about going to uni, I can’t wait for the change in lifestyle, you have to do it at some point, it’s all about studying but you have to have nights off as well and have fun. I don’t actually know what Data Sciences is though.
Are you looking forward to freshers’ week? Yeah, fresher’s week is going to be mental, I’m going to go out every night, hit the town, meet new people. How would you describe yourself? Spontaneous.
