Confirmed: Boris Johnson will resign as prime minister and leader of the Tory party

Finally

Boris Johnson will resign as prime minister of the United Kingdom and leader of the Conservative Party.

This comes a series of resignations brought his government to its knees.

He will continue in his post as PM until Autumn while a Conservative leadership takes place this summer.

On Tuesday, the Chris Pincher scandal boiled over leading to the resignation of health secretary Sajid Javid and chancellor Rishi Sunak.

Over 50 more resignation letters were handed in over the next couple of days leaving Johnson with barely anyone to fill key posts in government.

This morning, newly appointed chancellor Nadhim Zahawi went public with his calls for Boris to go. Education secretary Michelle Donelan handed in her resignation.

And then the news broke that Boris has decided to resign.

Updates as they come.
