The Tab tries ‘danger Fabbing’

On a Saturday night, nothing can beat Fab. Yet the chances are you’ve made the mistake of not buying a ticket in advance. Your decision to go to Fab was a spontaneous, last-minute, brilliant drunken idea. But sitting, pressing refresh on the ‘Fab N Fresh’ Facebook group and waiting to sell your soul for tickets isn’t the night you were hoping for, so you turn to your final option: ‘danger Fabbing’.

‘Danger Fabbing’ is going to Fab early and seizing those precious few tickets available at the door. The danger element is either arriving too early to a ghost town or too late to no tickets and a bouncer who turns you away.

The Tab tried this as a spontaneous night out so you don’t have to. Here’s how it went.

We didn’t intend to go out out – we just planned to have a couple of drinks at the Pear. But by  9pm, we were already in a drunken state, trying to find tickets for Fab. This is when the idea to ‘danger Fab’ came about. We decided to embrace this way of life and so went back home to get ready for our night out.

The journey to Fab

As newbies to this, we were unsure of what time to arrive. We aimed for 10:30pm but got there nearer 11pm. Campus was dead – a sign of what was to come. Luckily we had planned ahead and had enough alcohol to find the funny side to turning up an hour early to Fab.

Yes, they made us walk the whole of the zig-zagged empty queue. But if you hate standing out in the cold for ages, coming early is definitely a good shout.

What did we really expect? A busy, lively club? Kind of. But it was empty. Minus a few other drunk people who had come up with the same brilliant plan we had, there was no-one. There are positives to coming early though – you don’t have to queue for toilets and can get drinks easily. You can also sit at the tables and actually hear conversations. Plus, in an hour it would be packed and we’d be wishing it wasn’t as busy.

The verdict

If you want guaranteed entry without the hassle of grabbing tickets from Drinks2Go, this is a fail safe plan. Unless you take ‘danger Fabbing’ to the extreme and turn up moments before midnight it will be dead inside, but as long as you are prepared to wait it out, your night will be, literally, fab.
