This UoB student had his car burnt down, so he’s started a GoFundMe to cover the costs

A brand new meaning to ‘Hot Wheels’

At 3.00am Monday morning, a second-year Accounting and Finance student awoke to find his car on fire outside of his house on Dawlish Road.

Cameron Shadbolt told The Birmingham Tab how after hearing a car alarm go off, he initially "thought nothing of it, and went back to sleep. I woke up two minutes later to the blue lights from the fire engine.

"I looked out and saw a car on fire, only to then realise it was mine."

West Midlands Police theorised that the car was set alight after being broken into, as a result of a failed robbery.

"I was just shocked really. You never expect to see your car on fire outside your house and it’s just scary to think we live in this place where that happens."

However, instead of continuing without a vehicle, Cameron created a Gofundme, in order "give the Punto the send off / replacement it deserves.

"I saved and got that car twelve months ago, and have just paid £500 for a year of insurance, so I have zero money to get a new car. Although I’m covered, I only get a tiny amount, and it puts next years costs up massively. If people donate even £5 it’s a huge help.

"The appeal has already raised over £235 in less than 24 hours, and many have left comments of support."

When asked if he had a message to those who set his car alight, Cameron replied that he "would just tell them that they’re absolute melts – pun not intended."
