Bristol city centre on lockdown due to ‘chemical incident’

Pray for the Riverside freshers

Emergency services rushed to tape off streets in Bristol’s city centre this morning after a chlorine alarm went off in the swimming pool of The Grand Hotel.

Eight fire engines, six ambulances and numerous police cars descended upon Broad Street, Corn Street and Small Street to the shock of passersby.

The streets were cordoned off and members of the public were temporarily evacuated.

The streets remained shut for over 45 minutes until the authorities could check that there was no possibility of a chlorine gas leak or toxic levels in the swimming pool.

There were no reported casualties.
