Theresa May is coming to Bristol tonight

Bristol has been stunned to hear that Prime Minister Theresa May will be making a surprise trip to the city this evening, as part of her whistle stop electioneering campaign across the country.

Following on from a visit by Lib Dem leader Tim Farron a fortnight ago, the announcement appears to be an audacious bid to bolster Tory representation in traditionally left-leaning territory. Currently, the Conservatives only hold one of the four seats wholly within the city boundaries.

The Prime Minister is due to speak at Hungerford Community Centre, Brislington today at 7pm. The talk has been advertised as invitation only, with Bristol University Conservative Association being allocated 10 places for the event. All 10 attendees had to provide their name, Tory membership number, address, and email address.

BUCA President Johnny Thalassites commented that:”‘Bristol students have a clear choice at this election: strong and stable government, or a coalition of chaos”. Tory Social Secretary Henry Edelstein added that:  “I’m really excited to hear the PM speak, I want to see her ‘strong and stable’ leadership at first hand”.

One anonymous third year politics student who missed out out on a spot said it was a: “Shame, there are two things I love in life, a Jason Donner Vans Veggi burger and a strong and stable government”.

The news comes three years after David Cameron’s famous visit to the Nandos on Park Street.
