This is why you should definitely join The Bristol Tab this year

Seriously, stop putting it off!!

Are you a first year looking to start something at uni you can progress in, or a third year panicking that you are leaving uni without any experience outside your degree? Whether you can relate to these things, or just want to try something new and meet some really cool people, The Bristol Tab is looking for you.

The Bristol Tab is written by University of Bristol students, for Bristol Uni. We like to have lots of fun with our articles, but are also committed to delivering the most relevant news that students want to hear.

If you are interested in writing, student life and being the first to hear all the maddest news stories on campus then we have a place for you.

We’re particularly encouraging students from minority backgrounds to sign up. If you feel like journalism isn’t typically accessible for people from your background, please do get in touch. You’ll have guidance from experienced editors to get you up and running, whether news or features is your thing. The process is simple. You don’t even need to apply – just get drop us a message if you’re interested and we’ll get you writing.

Still not sold? Here is everything else you need to know before our first open meeting on Friday.

What is The Tab?

The Bristol Tab is part of a wider organisation called The Tab; a student news site that covers over 30 UK universities with over six million monthly readers. Any article you write will be shared onto our Facebook page, with a readership of over 20,000.

If you’re looking to get into the media industry with some cracking work experience, look no further. The Tab have a huge network of alumni (literally, the list of connections on Linkedin is endlesss) that often go on to work for global publications, such as VICE, The Times and Vogue.

Why should I write for The Bristol Tab?

The Bristol Tab is known for delivering and breaking the maddest stories on campus, and off campus, first.

For example, we were there for the Black Lives Matter protest that saw 10,000 people march through Bristol in solidarity, the famous fall of the Colston statue and the ripple effects this caused throughout the Bristol community.

By writing for us, you have the opportunity to amplify the voices you feel have been left out of the narrative. You have the opportunity to inspire change by the people you talk to and the stories you hear.

On campus, we were on the story the moment medics in haz-mat suits came to Wills Hall at the start of the pandemic, to the moment VC Hugh Brady revealed to us in an interview that student refunds are not an option because online school is “expensive”.

There are always fun feature ideas to get involved with too, if news isn’t what you fancy. From creating a famous Tab quiz, looking into famous alumni of Bristol uni and even finding UoB students who are TikTok famous, there is so much more outside of news with student interest.

Writing for us means your stories will reach thousands of readers, and could even get picked up by national news outlets.

You don’t need experience

We are a student run publication, so there is no pressure to have any previous experience.

Our team works with an Assistant Editor, who is based at The Tab HQ in London. They offer training for all our team in reporting news and key insight into writing features that will be read by thousands.

We are committed to supporting new writers, and we will teach you everything you need to know. You will learn loads through practice too, so no stress.

How do I sign up?

Come along to our first virtual open meeting on zoom for a run down on how to get started. Make sure to click attending on our facebook event.

Got an article pitch for us already? Slide into our DMs on Instagram or Facebook, and we’ll add you to our writers group chat.

We hope to see you at our first open meeting this Friday!
