Oxford Brookes: 150th birthday mess up

Bungling staff have accidentally got the wrong date for the 150th anniversary.

Brookes have been slightly over-enthusiastic and have released a Brookes beer, tea blend and various stationary to commemorate the event.

But students are now advised to keep their pointless merch for next year because Brookes Chancellors have made a monumental mistake – the 150th year actually falls in 2016 with the official birthday being the 29th of February.

An intern, who wishes to be made anonymous, spotted the mistake after being set the task of finding the earliest historical documents Brookes has in order to display them at the main event. 

Railf Spool, a spokesperson for Brookes, said: “After some miscalculations we realised that we are actually in our 149th year, but our 150th site will keep running until the end of 2016. We will be sending an apology out to all those associated with Oxford Brookes University.”

The 149th birthday doesn’t have quite such a ring to it.

It’s good news for Brookes students though as we now get two years of celebration and promotional events.

Brookes should probably take some suggestions from their older brother Oxford University on how to keep track of the years. After all, they have managed to keep up with their age since 1167.
