More students at Brookes took a gap year than any other uni

Lauren McNamaraAccording to a recent Tab survey, 38 per cent of students went on a gap year before Brookes – more than any other uni.
The survey was taken by over 12,000 people, and we came just before King’s who were a whole ten percent lower.
Unsurprisingly, only nine per cent of our Oxford rivals decided to take a year out.

Since your time at Brookes, you’ve probably encountered many of the dreaded gap year stories. No Natalie, I don’t want to hear for the eighteenth time about how you went to California and single-handedly saved a dolphin. Cheney Pre-Drinks are filled with stories of people finding themselves in Mongolia or riding camels in Egypt, and those of us who came straight from the joys of A-levels feel envious, or just mildly irritated.
Even if you just worked in ASDA and went on a lads holiday to Zante, you still count as one third of the Brookes population that took time out before embarking on your latest adventure: all nighters at the JHB.
