Cambridge University re-institutes face-coverings in all indoor shared spaces

In a recent email addressed to all students at the university, Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Graham Virgo and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Kamal Munir announced that they expect face-coverings to be worn by students, staff, and visitors in all indoor shared spaces (unless exempt). This announcement follows the emergence of the new Omicron COVID variant and the revised public health guidance from the UK government.

As per the email, this announcement will include labs, libraries, classrooms, and shared offices. Face-coverings will also be expected when moving through corridors and across communal rooms. The new requirement will go into effect immediately, and be applied university-wide.

However, the email clarified that face-coverings “are not required when outdoors nor if a person is exempt from wearing a face covering.” Students are urged to look to and follow specific guidance from their colleges regarding accommodation and college spaces.
