New halls will replace homeless shelter

Three new developments have been approved

The derelict York Hotel in the city centre, which is currently a homeless shelter, is going to be completely knocked down and replaced with student accommodation. The adjacent grade-II listed Custom House will also be converted into student rooms. Together, they will total 170 new bedrooms including a coffee shop, gym, garden and common room.

The plush new halls will be on Newport Road

Further plans for a £30 million development will see a rooftop extension and total renovation of four old office blocks, close to the School of Engineering, into 355 new student bedrooms. The plush new halls will include a gym, cinema, lounge and games area, a coffee shop, a basement common room and central rooftop garden.

Another halls of residence is also going to be built in the heart of Cathays above shops on Crwys Road next to the Crwys Pub.
