The School of Divinity is officially Edinburgh’s poshest department

The School of Divinity can officially lay claim to the title of being Edinburgh’s “poshest” School, with it being the only one in the uni to have more private school entrants than state.

Considering its lush New College setting, this may come as no surprise. After all, nothing screams private school education quite like a scary Hogwarts-esque building complete with a big ol’ statue.

According to a Freedom of Information request by The Tab, in 2014, 50 students from the chapels of private schools all around the country chose to relocate to New College, while only 32 came from state school backgrounds.

It’s beautiful isn’t it? It’s also full of private school kids.

Other Schools that could be considered ‘posh’ are Economics, with 55 state entrants to 42 private, over 50 per cent.

History, Classics and Architecture also fared quite well with 177 state students to 136 private.

But none can claim to be quite as posh as Divinity.

At the other end of the spectrum, perhaps with a natural tendency to fight the establishment, Edinburgh College of Art had only 69 private entrants compared with 239 state in 2014.

A sound ratio of 3.5 state kids to every privately educated one.

These arty types probably went to a state school. Statistically speaking.

This news comes just days after the shocking revelation that Chancellor’s Court is the student hall with the greatest ratio of privately educated to state educated students.

Edinburgh is just full of surprises.
