Edinburgh rises thirteen places in new university rankings

Napier were the biggest fallers, dropping 23 positions

The University of Edinburgh were one of the top climbers in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018, moving from a disappointing 37th in 2017 to 24th this year.

Despite the rise, Edinburgh remain the fourth highest university in Scotland behind St Andrews in third, Glasgow in 20th and Dundee in 23rd.

Such are the quirks of university rankings, Edinburgh are simultaneously the 24th highest ranked UK university and the 27th best university in the whole WORLD – both according to The Times.

Figure that one out.

Elsewhere in Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt remained the fifth placed Scottish uni in 39th position overall whilst QMU dropped one place from 101st to 102nd.

Napier lost out considerably however, falling from 93rd to 116th – the third biggest drop out of any uni in the UK this year.

The survey takes into account information compiled from student surveys on teacher excellence, student experience, graduate prospects and course completion rate.
