Pollock Halls is turning into Scotland’s ‘biggest hotel’ this summer
Who needs a chateaux in St Tropez anyway
After a £10 million refurbishment project, Pollock Halls, the yah-heavy student accommodation that is infamous for all the wrong reasons, is set to become "Scotland's largest hotel" this summer.
Following the recent works, more than 1800 people will be able to stay on the site at one time during the summer months once the students have moved out.
The student accomodation turns into a hotel every summer, but it is following the refurbishment of Holland House that it will become the "biggest" in Scotland.
Pollock Halls is made up of many different 'houses', each with different characteristics. Grant, Ewing, Turner, Lee and Baird have shared bathrooms and rooms for 890 people, whilst Holland House has en-suite bedrooms and sleeps 350 people. Chancellor's Court and John Burnett House also have en-suite bedrooms and can house 640 guests.
Lyndsay Wilkie, director of business development at accommodation, catering and events company Edinburgh First said: "The variety of rooms available at Pollock Halls means that we are able to accommodate a diverse range of guests with varying budgets, from school groups and festival performers to couples who are looking for something slightly different and more affordable."
The 'hotel' will offer free parking, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi and a self-service restaurant, bar and bistro. Hopefully the guests' experiences of the JMCC will be marginally better than that of the unfortunate student below.
Wilkie continued: “Most people would expect our campus to be quiet over the summer months when our students have left, however in June, July and August it takes on a totally different atmosphere as we welcome thousands of guests visiting our wonderful city." She added: “The size of the campus creates a truly unique buzz, almost like its very own small community."
So, why not make it like Sharpay Evans with a dip in the (Commonwealth) pool, and a trip to the spa. Sack another boring tour of the South of France on Daddy's yacht and book Pollock Halls instead for the ultimate summer stay. Word on the street is that flares and blonde box dye are obligatory, whilst a raspy smoker's voice and a gap year are strongly recommended.
