Scotland could re-open from the last week of April, says FM Nicola Sturgeon
Stay at home orders could be lifted on the 5th April
Scotland’s economy could open up from the last week of April, says First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
The week of April 26th will also see a return to the level system with the potential for some areas of Scotland to move out of level four restrictions.
Sturgeon said the strategy is cautious at this stage, but if the data allows, restrictions will ease.
Restrictions have started to ease in three week phases with the priority being the return of schools.
From the 5th April stay at home restrictions could be lifted as well as any final phases of school return, communal worship return, and the ease of household mixing.
Three weeks after that, the 26th April, will hopefully see a phased but significant re-opening of the Scottish economy.
Sturgeon said she will not be giving “arbitrary dates” for re-opening and instead will rely on data.
She said that Scotland needs to rely on restrictions to suppress the virus until the adult population is vaccinated.
In some positive news, the University of Edinburgh reported yesterday that the Pzifer and Astra-Zeneca vaccine have both led to significant decreases in hospitalisation four weeks after the initial dose.
Sturgeon said Scotland’s position is positive and promising, and “if we are to sustain our progress, we need to be cautious.”
