The night of Tuesday 17th was a quiet one for most lads due to the timely arrival of the newest addition to the series of corruption and exploitation that is Grand Theft Auto.
We were all expecting great things from Rockstar when the game was announced back in October 2012, and they haven’t disappointed.
Everything from the astounding technological elements to the emotional yet endearingly comical storyline suggests years of hard graft and highly developed production.
GTA’s most successful location ‘San Andreas’ has been polished up and features new, unique districts to complement the equally novel idea of multiple playable characters.
The exceedingly smooth 30fps frame rate makes gameplay feel refined and natural, with particular kudos being paid to the relatively minor aspect of lighting which just adds an extra sheen to the already spine-chillingly realistic rendering.
The game is set up around the three playable protagonists each with their own distinct personalities and consists of the standard GTA gameplay, with a much more lighthearted feel than the grittier GTA 4.
Many aspects of the game are centred around player taste, the choice to use a lock on or free aim as well as the new plan feature which allows the player to choose a course of action to complete a mission before hiring different professionals (or newbies) for the job.
Higher elements of stealth and new weapons also create a constant sense of discovery which adds volumes to the game’s creative capacity.
With 40 hours of skip-able mission gameplay and an awe-inspiring open world to explore, smooth cut-scenes that feel natural and instantly familiar gameplay, GTA 5 looks set to enthral, entertain and possibly traumatise new and hardcore fans for years to come…
