Students living in King’s Residences will not be charged for term 3 if they move out due to COVID-19

Student’s living in King’s Residences will not be charged for term 3 or term 4 ifs they move out by Saturday 11th April due to coronavirus.

In a recent email sent to students’ personal accounts, the King’s Residences team explains:

“The UK Government recently recommended that all students, including those overseas, return home whether that is to the UK or to their home country.”

“We recognise that for some of you this will not be possible, and I want to assure you that if you continue to stay on in student accommodation, we will do everything we can to look after you and support you.”

“At King’s, our resident’s safety and welfare is our priority. While we remain open and are here to support our residents, we understand that some of you may wish to cancel your tenancy agreement and return home.”

“If you decide to return home, you will not be charged for term 3, (11 April – 20 June) and term 4, (20 June – 15 Aug), or (20 June – 05 Sept), depending on your contract length.”

The students who want to leave or have already left need to fill out a form informing the university of their decision by Friday 27th March, return their keys/access card to the reception, and clear their room by midnight on Saturday 11th April.

Many students were moved into the Hilton after being forced to evacuate from Champion Hill in January. However, the recent increase of students moving back home means they can return to King’s Residences with the email instructing them to reply “with your preferred location”.

For those who want to remain in London, the different accommodations remain open:

“The reception and night team are operating as usual.”

“We are carrying out additional cleans throughout communal, reception and other most touched areas and encourage all residents to continue to be mindful of hygiene and cleanliness.”
