A man has been arrested on Lancaster Uni campus for assault

First aid was given in the university library

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on Lancaster University campus on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm.

On Sunday evening, police were called to the university after receiving reports of an assault. It is not known if the alleged perpetrator is a Lancaster University student.

Lancaster University has confirmed whilst the alleged attack did not take place in the library, first aid was administered there.

At around 6.45pm, students working in the library became aware of police asking questions about whether anyone had seen anything.

One student told The Lancaster Tab they were asked whether they’d seen anything “kicking off”.

There were also several police vans in the Underpass at this time.

A toilet on the A floor of the library was closed for the majority of Monday, with a sign on the door written in block capitals reading “Do not enter. This is a directive. Thank you.”. There is no confirmation as to whether or not this is linked to the arrest.

Lancaster Police told The Lancaster Tab: “We were called to Lancaster University at 6.19pm yesterday (Dec 4) to reports of an assault. A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm and is currently in custody. Anyone who witnessed the incident, please contact 101 – quoting log 1010 of December 4, 2022.”

Lancaster University said: “The incident didn’t happen in the Library although the first aid was administered in there.

“The colleges, counselling and Student Conduct are aware of the incident and the police are carrying out their investigations.”
