Homophobe Cleric Cancels Leeds Visit

Islamic cleric Mufti Ismail Menk, who deemed gay sex as bad as “rape”, has axed his national tour which was scheduled to visit Leeds Uni on Monday 11 November

Islamic cleric Mufti Ismail Menk who described gay sex as worse than “dogs and pigs” and as bad as “rape” will not speak at Leeds Uni on Monday as previously planned.

The controversial Muslim cleric was set to air his radical views in the Conference Auditorium for an event arranged for Leeds University and Leeds Met Islamic societies.

In a rant that compares consensual gay sex with rape he said: “they did it both ways through rape and through consent, but they only did it with the same kind”.

The cleric has previously said that gays are “filthy” and worse than “dogs and pigs.”

Leeds University Islamic Society posted on their Facebook page: “As some of you may have realised, the Mufti Menk event has been cancelled.

“Unfortunately this has been out of our hands and we can only apologise to anyone who was especially looking forward to the event. For details as to why the event was cancelled, please contact Tayyibun Institute.”

The University press office said: “We are neither responsible for the booking or its cancellation- Menk is an external speaker and was not hired by the university.”
