He had graduated from Leeds in 2015
It has been confirmed that a former Leeds student, Sam Pegram, was among the 157 passengers killed in the tragic Ethiopian Airways disaster on Sunday. Sam, who had moved to Leeds from Penwortham in 2012 graduated with an International Relations degree from the university in 2015. He then went on to study for his Masters in International Human Rights Law at the University of York.
Sam had been working in an aid role for the Norwegian Refugee Council and was travelling to Nairobi when he boarded the flight which crashed just six minutes after takeoff from Addis Ababa.
Tributes are being paid to Sam who had already worked alongside refugees in Jordon and had committed his life to humanitarian work. Speaking to The Tab, the University of Leeds shared their condolences, saying: "Sam Pegram completed an International Relations BA at the University of Leeds' School of Politics and International Studies in 2015."
Dr Gordon Clubb, International Relations BA Programme Director, said Sam would regularly keep in touch, emailing to say how he was getting on. He added: "Sam was an exceptional student. He was such a compassionate and kind person.
"He was one of the students I held up as a role model for others and I've never been so proud of a former student – he had a real drive to help others."
