According to the organiser of the event, Rasteen Riyahi Boni, 1,500 students at Leicester are LGBTQ+.

Rasteen organised the event as since the EU Referendum, homophobic attacks have gone up 147% in the UK. She commented: “We won’t tolerate this on our campus. Leicester University is no place for hate. It is up to us to end it.”

Ben, Gavin, James, Ollie – Rugby Union

“We are here to represent Men’s Rugby Union and show our support for the LGBTQ+ community.”

Imy and Sarah – Ladies Hockey

“Ladies Hockey are always proud to represent LGBTQ+. All sports teams should make this a priority in their clubs to ensure a safer environment.”

Jess and Mae – Women’s Lacrosse

“It is important to make people aware that homophobia still exists and we should show intolerance as a sport club.”

Dan – Activities Officer

“I’m here because homophobia is still a real experience for our students.”

Mads and Libby – Netball

“We are working hard too ensure that the Netball Club is inclusive and in full support of LGBTQ+. The pride march is a great way to raise awareness and show everyone on campus that it is an issue which needs to be tackled!”
