Scores on the doors: Week 1
All the results from the first two weeks of the intramural football season.
Both Medics sides were in unstoppable form as the Intra Mural league kicked off last Wednesday.
Medics 1sts thrashed Crayola 8-1 in their opening match of the season while Medics 2nds put TEN past newly promoted Borussia Forsyth with new signing Josh Batham scoring eight of them. Batham, who has moved from Second Division outfit Ecosoccer, was joined on the scoresheet by Dalton and Swetman as the Medics ensured a miserable start to life in the First Division for Forsyth.
First division
In the other First Division clash Henderson Hall defeated Dyslexic 4-1 at Close House with one of last season’s stand out performers Armani Zafar stealing the show with two goals.
Second division
In the Second Division, Adam Duckworth’s double led The Hurricanes to a 2-1 victory over Castle Leazes. Aaron Green had equalised for Leazes with a cool finish from outside the box after Duckworth had given his side the lead but The Hurricanes’ front man was left unmarked to head home the decisive goal midway through the first half.
Lokomotiv were reduced to nine men as they succumbed to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Ecosoccer while elsewhere in the Division new boys Roman Villa hit Boca Seniors for six in a 6-2 victory.
Third division
Newhist FC started life in the Third Division with a 4-0 victory over Intra Mural new boys Bio Neverlosen after their relegation last season, while Politic Thistle started their promotion push with a hard fought victory over Multiple Scorgasms, emerging 3-2 winners at Close House. Jesmondino and Newcastle Dynamos were inseparable as they drew 2-2 in Division Three’s other fixture.
Fourth division
With interest in Intra Mural football heightened this year, a Fourth Division has been introduced, playing host to a number of new faces on the Intra Mural scene. The Establishment turned a few heads with their impressive 4-0 win over Trigger Happy but Thundercats stole the limelight, dispatching of Crystal Phallus 9-0. Thundercats manager Stevie Gold admitted after the game that his side, made up of third and fourth year medical students originally based inDurham, was looking to take the Fourth Division by storm and secure a swift promotion to the Third tier, something which looks entirely achievable after their opening day performance.
