Metro station blaze: Monument closed after electrical fire

Fresh from the streets being flooded with piss water, a fire has forced the Monument metro to close.

At 12.45 this afternoon My Metro took to twitter to explain the lack of metros travelling through monument and why they had evacuated the area.

All entrances to the station were closed off by the Police and an Ambulance was called to the scene as an emergency procedure. The scene quickly drew attention and large crowds of people gathered to see what was happening.

At least six fire engines took to the scene, as the fire is believed to have been started by a small electrical malfunction. Delays of up to an hour are expected around the city centre and surrounding stations as no replacement bus is being provided.

Fire officers examined the scene within the station itself and the engines and emergency services soon dispatched.

Neighbouring Newcastle hot spot Eldon Square saw complaints as shoppers were asked to leave the areas closest to the metro station, being told they were ‘in the way.’

The even took place at the same time as a busy Green Party rally and as it occurred during a rush hour public transport commute word quickly spread across the city.

Station staff issued reports saying they were unsure of the exact time the station would re-open, but reassure customers that the rest of the metro system is still fully operational. They’ve also apologised for delays.

Metros are reported to be running on schedule now.
