In my Wardrobe: the Midi Dress

Bare calves and restricted mobility… Fashion writer Claire Kidman lets us in on a week working the midi dress.

Although they were everywhere this summer, the midi dress was one trend I didn’t buy into.

Claire Kidman wears midi dress, £36, from Topshop with jacket from Warehouse, boots from H&M, scarf from Monki and Mulberry bag.  Photo by Millie Newnum.

Winter, however, has made it more appealing. Thanks to inspiration from magazines and blogs, I decided to try it for the new season.

Think dark colours, high necks, and a bodycon fit, worn with bare legs and heeled boots. My ankle boots, leather jacket, and chunky scarf keep the look casual.

I’ll admit, in spite of the long sleeves and dark colours, I still felt ridiculous with bare legs in late November, but tights look too formal.

Whilst I loved the dress, it does take some effort to walk normally; don’t expect to be running for a bus. In spite of this, I’ll definitely be investing in more midi dresses.

Add a pair of heels, and they’re also great for a night out. Who cares if you have to walk a bit slower?

Topshop had the high street’s best selection, from animal print to velvet. Online, Missguided.co.uk has different styles in a whole array of winter colours, starting at £12.99, so even those on a student budget can afford to try out the look this season.
