UEA crash out

UEA 0-1 CATFIELD: Narrow defeat sees UEA’s footballers out of the Norfolk Junior Cup.

UEA slumped to a disappointing defeat at the quarter-final stage ending their hopes of a cup final appearance at Carrow Road.

For the first time in a long time UEA had the vast majority of players available with only Dave Seymour injured yet there was no room in the squad for top scorer Dingli.

UEA started slowly and seemed a little nervous about the occasion. There were no real chances in the first half other than a volley that went just wide from a Catfield winger.

In the second half UEA got a little more in to their stride and began to use the ball more effectively, substitute Calvo in particular looking dangerous.

Neither side looked like breaking the deadlock but with the game looking for all the world like it was heading for extra time, a late goal sunk UEA.

The goal came as the Catfield centre forward won a header on the edge of the box and the loose ball fell to a player unmarked to despatch the ball smartly into the roof of the net.

There was no time for UEA to respond resulting in a defeat that will be hard to take for the Yellows.

UEA will now look to concentrate on the BUCS and the Anglian Combination leagues after being eliminated from all cup competitions.
