Top Student Dates
Norwich, the city of romance?! Who would have known…
Perhaps a cheeky chappy has caught your eye in a seminar, or you’ve met a luscious lady in the LCR. Why not take the plunge and go on a good old fashioned date?
Students are on a budget, so keep things simple with The Tab’s top Norwich student dates:
Drinks
Casual drinks are a great and cheap way to get to know a person. Aim for somewhere relatively quiet to avoid shouting over loud music. Why not try The Ten Bells on St Benedicts Street, or The Langtry on Unthank which offers a student discount.
Top tip: the pub on campus isn’t all that impressive.
Lunch
Going for lunch can be less intimidating than an evening meal in a restaurant for a first or second date. Lunch allows you to dash off to an imaginary meeting with your adviser if your date turns out to be an avid stamp collector. Norwich is full of cute coffee shops. The Workshop on Earlham Road is cosy, quirky and has a great menu.
Comedy Clubs
It’s that ‘lonely hearts’ column cliché, everyone seems to want a date with a good sense of humour. If you’re about as funny as a £10 library fine (thanks UEA), let someone else do the work for you. Click here for details of what’s coming up in the city or go and see some of UEA’s own funny folk perform with UEA Headlights Comedy Society.
Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts
One for you cultured folk, the Sainsbury Centre on campus has various exhibitions throughout the year and it’s mostly free (score!). It may be a good idea to check that your date likes art first though…
Banham Zoo
At £11.50 per adult, a day at the zoo is cheaper than a meal for two in most restaurants. The downside is that Banham is NR16, so you really need a car to get there easily.
The Beach
We are lucky enough to be only a quick train ride or drive away from some of Norfolk’s beautiful beaches. Great for a summer date but also worth a visit while the weather is chilly just for the gorgeous views.
Stay in
Staying in really can be as fun as going out, but perhaps this is one for later down the dating line. Show off your culinary skills or order a take-away and sneakily throw away the packaging – no one really minds, after all we’re all students.
