17.19 Emotional News Editor time- we need to thank SO many people. First and foremost, every blogger who came to help over the weekend (names at the bottom of this page!), you’ve been AMAZING, on the ball and helped out so much- your Tab Jailbreak Co-ordinator is so proud. Livewire 1350 and all those at Base Camp, we’ve had the best weekend and you’ve made us feel so welcome. The indescribable Alex Valentine and Kate Marks, who have worked SO hard with everyone to put this together and have kept morale up all weekend- Tab love you. Our INSANE teams, you have given us so much to write about, raised so much money, you’ve done so well and we are in awe of your mad jailbreaking skills (and thanks for keeping in touch so well too!). And to you, if you’ve read and donated. We hope you enjoyed tracking Jailbreak as much as we loved reporting it. This has been #jailbreakuea, we’re the Tab Norwich and we love you. Over and out.
17.15 Tab News Vic here. With that, our live coverage comes to end. It’s been an amazing weekend full of weird French men, clowns, Disneyland, moving map dots, police hitchhikes, travelling in horseboxes, Come Dine With Me contestants, #dovergate… but most of all, generosity, hilarity and raising over £11,000 (and counting) to help punch cancer in the face.
17.12 Tab News Vic, The Spectacles and Jailbreak Mum Kate Marks- finally reunited.
17.06 The Spectacles want to say a big thanks to everyone who supported them and jailbreak in general. Stop it, you’re making us blush.
17.03 Top hitchhiking tip from The Spectacles: always include the word ‘charity’.
17.00 And while the results were being delivered, Jack Hobohm and Rebecca McManus of The Spectacles have arrived to tell us stories of far off Switzerland.
16.58 Congratulations to the Panda Pops, and of course to every team who took part! You’ve all done brilliantly.
16.55 1. Panda Pops went furthest of all, making it all the way to Cyprus, an impressive 1963.27 miles away.
16.52 2. The Three Must-Get-Here(s) headed 907.16 miles south to Rome.
16.48 3. In Over Under got all the way to Madrid in Spain. That’s 875.96 miles away.
16.45 4. Yellow Brick Roamers lived up to their name and roamed 823.62 miles to Krakow in Poland.
16.44 5. Kangaroo Keith and the Babes made it 763.08 miles to Bratislava in Slovakia.
16.41 Okay, results are ready. We’re about to announce the five teams who made it furthest.
16.20 While some teams are making their way back, others seem to be using the opportunity to have a mini-holiday. Can’t say we blame them.
15.59 We’re hoping to be joined at Base Camp very soon by a very special guest! Rebecca McManus, one half of The Spectacles, will be coming in to celebrate being the first team back. (Sorry ladies, heartthrob Hobohm is still asleep).
15:53 Things seem to be winding down here at base camp. We’ll keep updating until the end though, and we’ll be announcing who reached the furthest.
15.36 The Fast and The Curious have described their weekend as: “2 coaches, a car, a Turkish lorry, a mental German In a van and various angry train conductors.” There’s a film pitch right there.
15.30 The mystery of Eat, Pray, Muriel’s muffin choice has been resolved: Caramel and banana. Panic over.
15.28 £145 in the base camp bucket. Will give jailbreak hugs to anybody who makes it £150. (Library, Floor 0, hint hint)
15.10 Eat, Pray, Muriel are treating themselves to muffins on the train back from Edinburgh. Flavour remains unconfirmed.
14.55 Adding to the rest of the jealousy inducing travel pics, here’s team Lock and Load Baby in Venice.
14.44 Emma Price on Twitter: “It’s things like #jailbreakuea that restore my faith in humanity that little bit more.”
14.20 Eat Pray Muriel’s final destination was Edinburgh Castle at 10am this morning. With today’s paper, for all the non-believers!
14.14 So Long and Thanks for all the Fish and Chips are “At Lille, next to Calais”. Hate to break it to them, but they’re 58 miles apart!
14.07 After a lengthy legal battle over whether or not Escapeas were actually in Amsterdam or not, they’ve provided us with photographic evidence. You can’t handle the truth!
13.55 The Three Must-Get-Here(s) want you all to see them at the Trevi fountain in Rome. Rumours that they’re running for Pope remain unconfirmed.
13.48 Tom and Pip do Jailbreak 2.0 have booked their ferry home. Tragically, they have to spend the rest of the day in Amsterdam. How sad for them.
13.40 Tilly Wood on Twitter: “i seriously can’t believe a group made it to cyprus!” You’re just jealous Tilly! Did they get the furthest though?
13.23 Whilst we have your attention- Jailbreak is just one part of a huge Cancer Research initiative by Livewire called Hearing Aid- the culmination of which will be a huge extravaganza in Blue Bar on April 13th. Watch this space!
13.16 With characteristic nonchalance, Jo Squared have informed us they don’t really care when they get back to England and will amble their way back. Enjoy Munich, girls!
13.05 Team IOU have provided us with their fantastic photographic evidence from Madrid!
13.01 Currently doing our best to entice the Spectacles out to Basecamp for photos and celebratory celebrations, but as they have had roughly NO sleep this weekend we’ll have to wait and see… #getSpectaclestoBasecamp
12.53 Spectacles are home! They made it back from Switzerland at 5.30am this morning after leaving Bern late last night.
12.40 The Shakesperience are in Glasgow and have resorted to sewing themselves into their jackets in an effort to stave off the cold…Now it’s off to the train station to find a way back to Norwich!
12.31 Eyes are starting (or continuing) to droop here at Basecamp, but morale is still high as we continue to hear from our awesome teams!
12.20 Hakuna Matata have left Land’s End and will be hitchhiking back in the direction of Burton. Good luck!
12.10 Team X are on their way home! Currently with a lovely man in a van who is taking them as far as Carlisle, where a heroic boyfriend will be waiting to drive them home to UEA. 100 Boyfriend Points awarded!
12.08 Hakuna Matata have officially clocked in from Land’s End in Cornwall for their final destination. We’re still waiting on photo evidence, they’re hoping to find a friendly hiker on a rainy and cold March morning….
12.00 We’re still waiting to hear from a few more teams, and then we’ll be announcing who managed to get the furthest away from campus in the allocated 48 hours!
11.46 Czech Mate are in Paris, heading back to the Gare du Nord in the hopes of catching the Eurostar. See you soon, team!
11.42 So Long And Thanks For All The Fish & Chips are on their way home from Amsterdam! They’re currently just outside Antwerpen and should be back in Old London Town in five and a half hours. Here is a team photo from 10 a.m in Amstel Station, Amsterdam:

10.07 Three Must-Get-Here(s) final destination is Rome, Italy.Pictures to follow, stay tuned.

END OF DAY TWO COVERAGE
00.16 And with that reassuring news, The Tab is signing out of Day Two of Jailbreak! Goodnight from Base Camp, and we’ll see you in the morning to find out which team has reached the furthest in Livewire’s Jailbreak 2013!
00.13 We’ve had a lot of concerned students worrying about UEA heartthrob Jack Hobohm. We can confirm, ladies, that Mr. Hobohm has just tweeted to assure his fans that rumours of The Spectacles’ demise was greatly exaggerated. His phone had just ran out of battery.
00.06 The Spectacles are still alive! They’re headed back to Norwich, having spent the day trying to escape from Bern, Switzerland. Could they be the first team to come home?
23.53 It seems as though most Jailbreakers are bedding down for the night (with a few notable exceptions); it seems likely the Tab will soon follow suit.
23.35 The Fast And The Curious have made it to Germany! It’s the end of Day Two and we can’t believe how many UEA students are jailbreaking all over Europe.
23.30 We’re starting to tire out here in Base Camp- it’s been a long two days! Cheer us up by helping us get to 10,500 pounds by midnight? We’re so close! Donate here: http://bit.ly/YiXXD1
23.18 Not content with their full tour of the North, The Shakesperience have arrived in Glasgow to bring their frivolities and tights to the city.
23.14 Tab News Vic has returned from the bar with a bucket full of change from the generous souls in the Union Pub tonight. She wants to say a particular thank you to the Women’s Hockey Team, who looked after her after a very intimidating man in a UEA sports kit screamed at her to F*** Off several times and got his team to boo her. Vic won’t rest until she finds him and gets him to donate fifty quid.
23.09 Unwavering determination from Team IOU in their update, all caps: “WE WILL NOT ACCEPT DEFEAT” favouring a “steady jog for 10 hours” to losing to the Three must-get-here(s)’s Jack Mayorcas.
22.58 Eat, Pray, Muriel have headed out (propelled by wine) into Edinburgh seeking donations, and basecamp’s lost its own (less inebriated—we hope) Vic Finan to the same noble cause.
22.46 News in from Victorious Secrets, they’re following in The Spectacles’ footsteps and are due to arrive in Basel, Switzerland, at 1am to find a place to kip.
22.35 Good news from Tom and Pip: they’ve survived, have found themselves a hostel, and will be enjoying a well-earned night in Amsterdam.
22.15 One of the 3 must-get-here(s) enjoys a pint earlier on in the day in sunny Rome, quite a different scene from rainy/snowy Norwich. Needless to say, envy is rife at basecamp:
21.57 Hakuna Matata have reached Land’s End; if the Inverness teams can reach John o’ Groats we’ll have officially spanned the whole UK (and beyond)!
21.46 Amazing news from Kangaroo Keith and the Babes, they’re 2 hours from their final destination, Slovakian capital, Bratislava!
21.40 We have a gatecrasher! Rachel Knott has arrived in Base Camp, tweeting that it’s pretty intense. Too right, Rachel. This is what the library does to you after twelve hours.
21.37 Base Camp have been worried about these guys all day, and it seems we had good reason! Disappointment Island have been caught…will they be sent back to the jail they escaped from? They’re currently in Troyes, France after walking 15KM in an epic storm to get there. True dedication guys!
21.32 Three Girls, One Jailbreak, Eat, Pray, Muriel, Will Cam Make It, and the Soap Droppers are all “celebrating10k” with a drink or two.
21.28 Tom and Pip do Jailbreak 2.0 just had a near-death experience, almost hitting a tram in the back of a car driven by a Chilean woman who illegally (!?) eats grapes for a living. Whew.
21.22 Jasper of The Fast and The Curious tweets—somewhat fittingly—that they’re “speeding through Belgium at a rapid pace.” Some teams it seems will race on to the very end.
21.16 We hope that Czech Mate are enjoying their night, having arrived in Paris—apparently indulging in some celebratory drinks.
21.04 Three Girls, One Jailbreak are also staying at a backpackers hostel (the same one as Team X, perhaps?) in Inverness, with a flight booked to Luton for tomorrow night.
21.00 Some base campers have disappeared? Have they gone for a Jailbreak of their own? Oh no, wait…they’re back. With the tell-tale signs of Domino’s sauce all over their chins.
20.45 Team IOU have definitely found the bright side of remaining in Madrid, tweeting a picture of them and this delicious tapas:
20.27 Team X have reportedly made it to Inverness and are bedding down for the night in a hostel.
20.08 The Shakespearience have pioneered a novel method for rousing donations, performing a scene from The Taming of the Shrew in an Edinburgh pub, with a few free drinks on the side.
20.01 Jo Squared are calling it a night in Munich, as lorries don’t drive on Sunday, so they’ve pitched their tent in a posh neighbourhood park.
19.50 Team IOU, having spent day in Madrid, are only slightly disheartened by Spanish drivers, and are heading back to investigate bus routes and a place to stay the night.
19.43 Vic signing off- handing over to her better half, Matt. And he’s about to come in with a bang- huge update: Team Lock and Load Baby are on route from Paris, to Venice!
19.30 So Long And Thanks For All The Fish And Chips are worn out, bless ’em. They’re going to stay in Amsterdam, having raised a smashing 220 quid on their journey. Well done guys, we can think of a few ways you can chill out in the Dam…
19.27 Val Langford, Mum of 3-must-get-heres’ Miranda, is having a marmite spag bol in solidarity with her daughter in Rome! Enjoy Val- we’re sure she’ll send you a postcard.
19.21 Kangaroo Keith and the Babes, who started the morning despondent in Dover are being driven to Bratislava in Slovakia, by Ian- who is apparently a big name in the paper bag industry. Come Dine With Me contestants…paper bag moguls…who will the Jailbreakers meet next?
19.05 You’re really spoiling us, 3 Must Get Heres. We’ve just seen this Rome sunset. Looks a bit naff compared to our view, to be honest. Suffolk Terrace…
18.57 3 Must Get Heres have checked into a very swanky looking hotel in Rome. At Base Camp, we’re contemplating ordering a Dominos. Nearly the same thing, right?
18.54 Livvy Brown of Eat Pray Muriel has tweeted her thanks to us all at Base Camp from a flat in Edinburgh!
18.37 Team X have been told by their driver that Norwich stands for ‘Knickers Off Ready When I Come Home’. We hope Team X don’t get their hopes up. Whilst we’re excited for the great homecoming of jailbreakers, The Tab’s knickers will remain firmly on.
18.27 More lovely people on public transport! Victorious Secret are on their way to Basel, Switzerland after having their ticket bought by the guys on the desk.
18.23 The Fast And Curious have just entered Belgium! The Tab is expecting a lot of chocolates to be brought back from this trip.
18.13 We’ve done a very scientific survey (accredited by Livewire, no less) that seems to prove that the Jailbreakers like McDonalds a lot. All the way over Europe and all they want is a Big Mac. Student life. Expert Kate Marks thinks it’s because of the free Wi-Fi. We think it’s because of the chips
18.10 Tom and Pip Do Jailbreak 2.0 are still with Chilean Maria on the way to Amsterdam. They’ve got a hostel booked- the night is still young guys! Hope you’re planning on showing the Dam how UEA parties.
18.07 Cheers to Sarah Roberts and Dani Ball for their awesome coverage over the past few editors. News Editor Vic back here. If you don’t hear anything, I’ve passed out from #jailbreakexhaustion
17:44 Fast and Curious are on their way out of Calais with a Turkish AGL Logistics driver who does not speak English. But they’re finally on the open road! Looks like they’re heading to Brussels.
17:39 Lock and Load Baby are at Paris train station, with plans to go down south by train.
17:37 Pandapops are staying in the Crystallo apartments in Paphos, Cyprus. Oooo posh!
17: 33 Jo Squared have just caught a lift to Munich!
17:28 Eat Pray Muriel have met Craig the Caterer, a contestant from Come Dine with Me! Hope you get his autograph guys!
17.11 Hakuna Matata have changed their tack. They’re heading towards Penzance, in Cornwall! Reckon they’ll find any lions there? (The locals are probably just as scary).
16:53 Thanks to some neighhh-bourly spirit, The Shakespearience have travelled all the way to Edinburgh in a horse box!
16:52 Czech Mate are 50 miles west of Paris!
14:31 After four missed meals and a 26 hour coach, the Yellow Brick Roamers have just chowed down on the best McDonalds ever! They are now in a cosy shopping mall in Krakow. Happy days!
16:17 Floods of support for our fundraisers on Twitter. One brave soul even offering sexual favours if they reach Africa! #Jailbreakcheekiness
16:05 Pandapops have arrived at Paphos Airport in Cyprus! Well done you cuddly adventurers!
15:54 The 3-Must-Get-Here’s are enjoying a pint in sunny Rome! Q: How jealous are we at snowy base camp? (A: Very….)
15:26 Team IOU, you know the old saying, ‘if at first you don’t succeed, pick yourself up and try again!
’15:25 3 Girls One Jailbreak on a coach to Inverness!
15:24 Victoria’s Secret’s car was pulled over by the po-po for speeding, but are now in Manheim!
14.58 Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Charity are keen in Aberdeen!
14.48 Kangaroo Keith and the Babes are finally in Belgium after a very rocky start! They’re hoping to head to Germany… maybe this is going to be a classic case of hare and the tortoise!
14.40 The Three Must-Get-Here’s have arrived in Rome!
14.37 Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Charity are on their way further North on a train to Aberdeen! They’ve just passed snow capped mountains, lovely.
14.18 After lots of rejections from train and bus drivers In Over Under are setting their sights on hitch hiking out of Madrid!
14.09 Eat Pray Muriel have now arrived in Edinburgh. Well done!
14.05 Lock and Load Baby are planning to go from Paris to Italy. Good luck guys! You can do it!
13.49 Sounds like a lot of our jailbreakers are feeling pretty amourous… Always the quiet ones, Czech Mate (last heard of at Clackett Lane Services on the M25) have arrived in Paris! They will soon be joined by Lock and Load Baby who are hitchhiking there now!
13.48 The Escapeas have arrived in Amsterdam!
13.40 Jailbreak solidarity! Will Cam Make It and The Soap Droppers have teamed up to WALK from Calais. We hope for their sake they’ve packed some blister plasters.
13.39 Jo Squared are in Ulm, Germany. Guess they ought to send those bridesmaids dresses back…
13.28 We’ve had a very helpful tweeter inform us that you pronounce Aachen aaaah-phlegm-n, that’s a ‘phonetics guide by a certified German!’ Thanks!
13.22 Victorious Secrets are en route to Aachen, Germany! Here at Base Camp, we’re trying to work out how to pronounce it. And failing.
13.20 As always, your opinionated Tab may have spoken too soon.. 3 Must-Get-Heres have been kicked off the train, but apparently they’re on another one that may even let them stay on until Naples!
13.07 Must-Get-Heres are moving fast! They’re on their way out of Florence on a train to Rome, maybe to choose a new Pope
13.03 Tom and Pip Do Jailbreak 2.0 are in Belgium! They’re now heading through Rotterdam towards Amsterdam!
12.59 It’s been an epic journey, fraught with danger, foes and battles. But they’ve reached the promised land. Eat Pray Muriel are in Scotland!
12.56 Team IOU are complaining about being stuck in Madrid. We’re stuck in the library. Priorities. (Keep faith, guys!)
12.52 Kangaroo Keith and the Babes have crossed the channel and reached Calais!
12.48 We’ve done it! Jailbreak has raised £10,000 for Cancer research! SO MUCH CHEERING IN BASE CAMP!
12.36 3 Must-Get-Heres have arrived in beautiful Florence. If we were them, we’d stay there and pretend to be sexy Italians for the weekend, but oh no- onwards they go! Where to next?
12.31 Hitchhikers Guide To The Charity are on a train to Aberdeen! Could they become our most Scottish team yet?
12.30 We’re so close to target, it’s unreal! 76 quid to go- please donate here to get to #10Kby1!
12.23 We just wanna share a bit of love for some of the guys here at Base Camp. Livewire God Alex Valentine was here all night and is still going strong! He just tweeted that all the teams are ‘continuing to boss it’. So are you, mate!
12.20 Not content with a Loch, 3 Girls 1 Jailbreak have been in search of mountains. They’ve stumbled on Ben Nevis. We reckon if they climb it, donations will rocket through the roof!
12.14 Eat Pray Muriel are hitching a ride with a caterer named Craig all the way up to Edinburgh. Seems like a lot of teams are headed up to Scotland this year!
12.07 3 Girls, One Jailbreak are having the most mental time on their Loch Ness Coach Trip. Said their tour guide is the most Scottish guy ever. We’re not surprised, girls. You are, in fact, in Scotland.
12.04 Cheers to Rich and his top tips- we hopes the teams were…at least amused, if not inspired.
12.00 Rich Canton signing off now. One more TOP TIP: Keep Going! Good luck teams.
11.59 Soapdroppers are in Calais and are waiting in the lorry park to hitch a lift.
11.57 More generosity! ‘If any #jailbreakuea are up in Edinburgh through today and need food then drop us a tweet and pasta will be on it’s way!!’ tweets Rachael Bowes. Hero.
11.53 They have been saved by a policeman who is taking them further north!
11.49 Eat, Pray, Muriel have been, rudely, turned away at Durham station. Some people.
11.47 More info on Lock and Load Baby. They have managed to secure a free taxi to get them across France. That is no mean feat!!
11.44 So long and thanks for the fish and chips are in a hostel in Amsterdam. Don’t worry, it’s not like the horror film.
11.43 Lock and Load Baby are heading east. That’s definitely the right way to go! Well…try south east.
11.41 The Fast and the Curious having finally got on a ferry to Calais. Hopefully they’ll think Calais is much nicer than Dover. TOP TIP – It’s not.
11.38 Should be a close one this year. Why not test your geography and work out who’s winning? Remember the distance is measured as the crow flies… and no crows are taking part.
11.32 Waiting to hear from a few teams. Don’t worry, we’re keeping TABs on all of them. See what I did there?
11.28 Lock and Load Baby are in Lille. TOP TIP – Lille have self checkouts with an English language section. SECOND TOP TIP – Lille station is full of angry French men.
11.23 #FabulousSouthAmericans tweet Tom and Pip do Jailbreak 2.0. They are being accompanied by their Chilean friend Maria all the way to Amsterdam. She is apparently up for a night out so we’ll have to invite her to the LCR one night. #dotheydo£1.50JagerbombsinChile?
11.20 Eat, Pray, Muriel team member Livvy has tweeted in some advice from the police. ‘don’t accept rides from men with creepy trousers, nits or saliva-y mouths.’ Very wise.
11.18 Shakesperience are peforming in the streets to earn some extra money for the cause. Top commitment.
11.15 Another TOP TIP. Remember the time difference! You’re working on English time. You’re welcome…
11.13 Eat, Pray Muriel have got in a car with a ‘gloved racing car driver’. Should be moving faster now then…
11.11 Shakesperience have been kicked off the train to Edinburgh at Dunbar. Fortunately the passengers are up in arms about it. Angry Scottish people are always good to have on side.
11.08 “Catch up on as much sleep as you can wherever possible.” Thanks Mark…what would we do without you?
11.06 The other half of my Jailbreak team last year, Ladzarus, has turned up at base camp for moral support. His TOP TIP coming up…
11.01 23 hours left and so far we have people in Madrid, Krakow and on Rome (almost). Almost £10,000 and hundreds of miles travelled. Keep donating.
10.56 A Mountain and a Molehill are galloping across the channel!
10.49 Team X are on the way to Edinburgh! X-perts
10.45 It’s a funny thing, Jailbreak. Nobody knows that better than Victorious Secrets who are being driven to the German border by a clown. Brilliant.
10.30 Annie from A Mountain and A Molehill has tweeted saying she will need her Euros after all. Getting Euros before you start? That’s the kind of confidence we want to see!
10.28 A plea for help from Spectacles who are stuck at Bern station. Worse places to be stuck I suppose!
10.26 The Yellow Brick Roamers have made it through 5 countries, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and are now in Krakow, Poland. That’s a lot of roaming!
10.24 Over halfway now and we have teams travelling all over Europe. Must be pretty exhausted by now. Keep going teams!
10.19 The Three Must-Get-Heres are on the train to Rome and ‘potentially further south’! Let’s hope so!
10.16 Kangaroo, Keith and the Babes are on the ferry to Calais! Too late to get to Australia? I’m saying no!
10.15 A Mountain and A Molehill are on their way to Dijon. Aren’t they famous for mustard? Bit like where they’ve come from…
10.11 Lottie Vale on Twitter – Can’t believe how far some people have travelled! – Nor can we! Unbelievable effort so far. Tweet us #jailbreakuea
10.08 Sounds like the weather is pretty grim for most of our teams so far. How far do they need to go to get some sun?!
10.05 So long and thanks for the fish and chips are scoffing their faces. Not with fish and chips though, they’re in McDonald’s in the Netherlands. Always good to try the local cuisine eh boys?
10.03 The Fast and the Curious have tweeted in referring to Dover as ‘the world’s worst town’. I can vouch for that…
09.58 Soap Droppers catching up on some much needed sleep…Looks comfy!
09.52 Dover is overrun by UEA Jailbreakers at the moment. Three teams are currently crossing the channel while Kangaroo, Keith and the Babes and Fast and Curious are still waiting to hitch a lift across the channel. Look for travellers with lots of spare seats!
09.50 Top Tip – Find helpful Spanish men
09.48 A helpful Spanish man has given Team IOU free metro passes. What a helpful Spanish man!
09.44 At the moment, it looks like they don’t need any tips! Tom and Pip Do Jailbreak 2.0 are with ‘Maria from Chile’ on their way to either Rotterdam or Amsterdam…Why not Chile?
09.37 The Tab is joined this morning by Jailbreak ‘expert’ Rich Canton who made it all the way to Luxembourg last year- watch out for his top tips and wisdom, teams!
