Netballers Roll Away Loughborough

Blues see away Loughborough with ease.

OUNC have had an incredible few weeks, beating Birmingham 2nd 47-14 and 55-19 in the league and cup in one fortnight. This week they played Loughborough 2nds. The two teams had already met in Loughborough at the beginning of the season with Oxford losing 62-48.

The game started out at a really fast pace, led by the opposition’s centre court. Oxford kept up though and forced multiple handling errors and balls off the sideline, easily converted by Redgrave and Godlee in the shooting circle.

Sascha Eady’s fight, speed and amazing feeds from all over the court were unmatchable by Loughborough who couldn’t work out how to combat Oxford’s athletic attacking line-up.

The score at half time was 26-9 with the defensive unit picking off ball after ball.

At half time, Hattie Beaumont came on to GK and seamlessly combined with the rest of the defence; in the third quarter Oxford only let in two goals. Liz Murray came on at WD providing a boost to the team’s fitness, with McLaren moving to C.

McLaren, the youngest member of the squad (fresher from Teddy Hall) had a superb game, working tirelessly to prevent Loughborough from making any progress down the court.

Holly Youlden came on at GA for the final quarter, reviving the shooting circle with some heart-stopping long-distance shots. Warwick came on to WD although moved back to C when McLaren came off due to cramp. McKay moved to GD.

An outstanding performance by all, with really tight attacking play, accurate shooting and 66 turnovers, resulted in a 54-20 win.

The Blues have a BUCS Trophy match this Wednesday vs Chichester at 1pm, Iffley Sports Hall which is another must-win.
