Sheffield drops to 80th best uni in the world
But Hallam didn’t even make the top 800
Joanna FreedmanSheffield has plummeted 11 places in the leaderboards, ranking 80th in the world according to the QS World University Rankings.
Despite our place dropping significantly, we still remain in the top one percent of the universities in the world.
And lowly Hallam didn’t even get a look in.
The 2015/16 rankings also place us 16th in the UK, beating fellow Russell Groups such as Southampton, Leeds and York to the post.

Departmentally, Sheffield has also asserted itself as a top place to study, with Geography making it to number 35 in the world, and Architecture, Development Studies, Engineering and Material Sciences not falling far behind, making the top 50.
Sheffield Hallam did not feature in the rankings of the top 800 unis in the world.
Third year Geographer Daisy said: “It’s great to see that Sheffield’s Geographers are getting recognised.
“It makes my endless days of map reading worthwhile.”

And Daisy’s excitement will be echoed by thousands more of us who, according to the QS World University Survey are receiving world class teaching.
We also sit comfortably in the top 100 with subjects such as History and Archeology, Sociology, Biological Sciences, Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering shining for Sheffield.
