Sheffield bags 21st spot in Sunday Times league table

Forever better than Hallam

Sheffield has ranked an impressive 21st in the Sunday Times University Guide released today.

We stayed in the same place as last year and also beat several of the other big Russell Group names with Newcastle, Manchester and Nottingham all trailing behind us in the twenties.

We lost out to the usual suspects like Oxbridge and Durham, but of course still rinsed Hallam who dropped ten places from last year to a fairly abysmal 72nd. Only 65.7% of their students graduate with firsts or 2.1’s, compared to  80.4% of us.

Our completion rate also ranked particularly highly at 94.4%, beating both of our Yorkshire rivals York and Leeds, and coming fifteenth overall.

Look at all those happy people

It’s good to know we’re also a uni of high standards, students enter with 428 UCAS points on average, which despite being almost 200 points lower than Cambridge’s is also significantly higher than the average entry score at Birmingham, Liverpool and Newcastle.

Our teaching quality was only thing that particularly let us down, coming in at 81.3% which is lower than most polys on the list and even the University of Bolton which is the fifth worst uni of all.

But numbers aren’t everything, and we should still be feeling pretty smug about another all round respectable performance.
