Here’s everything happening at Sussex this Wellbeing Week

Dogs, yoga, a silent disco, and so much more!


Sussex Wellbeing Week is here again, promoting health, happiness and open conversation, just as those deadlines start to hit. From getting creative to de-stress, or improving your academic abilities, there’s something for everyone to get involved with. Here is everything you can do to get those positive vibes flowing.

Monday 2nd March

REDS Healthy Relationship Workshop

What? An interactive workshop developed in partnership with Sussex students and delivered by experienced postgraduates, designed to promote discussion around all things relationships- whether that be sexual, romantic or friendly. Book a place here.

Can’t make this one? There is an alternative session on Thursday 5th March at 5:30 pm in Silverstone 317.

Sussex Pink Week + Art Soc Life Drawing

 

What? A special life drawing session, hosted by Sussex Art Society in collaboration with Sussex Pink Week. Entry is £5, and all proceeds go towards Sussex Pink Week. All art materials are provided, so just bring along yourself get creative! Be sure to book in advance, as there is limited capacity.

Tuesday 3rd March

Pink Week + Second Hand Sussex Clothes Swap

What? Bring along any unwanted clothes, shoes or accessories to swap for something new (you can also simply buy with cash). Entry is £1, and all proceeds go towards Pink Week. This event is a collaboration by Sussex Second Hand Society, Pink Week and the new fashion rental marketplace Garmie. Revamp your wardrobe and save the planet whilst you’re at it!

Leave No Trace Society will also be there, where you can recycle your ‘unrecyclables’. Fashionista-cum-eco-warriors? This one’s for you!

Essay Writing Tips for Undergraduates

What? A session focused on improving the quality of your essays, offering support on techniques such as referencing, critical analysis and succinctness. With deadlines looming over us all, this one’s definitely worth a visit! Places are free and can be booked here.

Mindfulness

What? Come along to find out more about improving your wellbeing through the practice of mindfulness. Think mediation, relaxation and a break from the stresses of student life. This event is so stress-free that you don’t even have to book.

Can’t make it? There is another session on Friday 6th March at 1 pm in The Meeting House.

“Winning with Failure” workshop

What? A two-hour workshop exploring success and failure, and how to navigate the emotional experiences that accompany both. That essay grade getting you down? This session offers insight into self-image and gives techniques for developing resilience to failure, as well as practical skills for everyday wellbeing. No booking required.

Language Cafe

What? An opportunity to learn an array of languages, themed towards health and wellbeing phrases. Learn a new practical skill, and meet some new friends!

SU + LBGTQ+ Soc Sober Silent Disco

What? The first ever sober silent disco, brought to you by University of Sussex SU and LBGTQ+ Soc. Prefer not to drink? This one’s for you! Tickets are free, but register to guarantee a space.

Wednesday 4th March

Woof Wednesdays

What? Sussex Dog Walking Society, School of HAHP and the Buddy Scheme have teamed up to bring you some extremely Good Boys. Missing your pet, need to de-stress or just fancy a chat with some other dog-lovers? Drop in this Wednesday; there will also be free tea, coffee and cakes, provided by the Buddy Scheme.

X-card Sexual Health Drop-in

What? This scheme runs to provide sexual health resources and information to students. Need condoms or simply got some questions? This session is free, friendly and run by trained student volunteers.

Can’t make it? The X-Card Sexual Health Drop-in also runs at 1 pm on Thursday 5th March (Student Life Centre), and Friday 6th March (Student Wellbeing Office).

Craft Soc Plant Pot Decorating

What? Unlock your creative side and decorate mini plant pots with Sussex Craft Society. All materials are provided, and you even get a mini succulent! This session if free for Craft Soc members, and £4 for non-members. Click ‘going’ on the Facebook event, or email [email protected].

What? A relaxing yoga session by the beach, and with entry only £1, what’s not to love? Open to everyone, from yogi beginners to veterans. Book a space here.

Mindfulness at the Meeting House

What? Can’t get enough mindfulness? Practice your skills in the lovely backdrop of the Sussex’s Meeting House.

Collage Your PHD

What? An opportunity to connect with other postgraduate students in the PhD community, provided by the Research Hive in collaboration with Dr Sophie Valeix and the Doctoral School. You can help make a collaborative collage for the Library, which will represent the unique mix of academic here at Sussex. It’s completely free, and you can book your place here.
