Lent Survival Guide
Lazy? Scared of commitment? This Lent walkthrough will make the forty nights seem like forty seconds
The passing of Shrove Tuesday, along with a wave of pancake related Instagrams, comes a dreaded day for many.
And no, in this case I’m not referring to a double lecture with no breaks…
In fact, ‘Ash Wednesday’ marks the beginning of Lent in the Christian calendar, pushing us to give up our most beloved treats and sinister habits.
The opportunity to swap beer bellies for bikini bodies is being taken up by more and more people each year, regardless of religion.
But how can we ensure our inner demons are not led astray by Tesco’s sweetie aisle until Good Friday?
Fear not. Here are a few survival tips to help you along the way.
1) Prepare to remain strong around friends and peers who insist on teasing you. Unfortunately, our ‘besties’ take much delight in eating a big bar of Galaxy right under the noses of Lent partakers. Simply shuffle away, resist all snatching urges, and chomp on that celery stick. You go, Glen Coco.
“I can resist everything except temptation”
2) Remember, there is light at the end of this 40-day tunnel. The dates may work to your advantage – don’t let yourself forget that Lent ends just as the Easter bunny is due a visit (great timing for Chocoholics). Until then, enjoy sweet, sugary dreams of crème eggs. Hang in there!
Naughty but nice
3) Despite the pressure, you may end up taking a lesson or two away from your experiences. Although your daily can of Monster or bag of crisps may leave you feeling complete and satisfied, your body will thank you for laying off the salt and sugar. As crazy as this sounds, you might find a new favourite in a healthy replacement. Think #saladselfie not #foodporn.
Yes we pan
4) Last but not least, prove yourself wrong. Lent teaches willpower and balance – two traits worth showing off to the rest of the student community. Besides, you are free to stuff your face for the rest of the year, guys and gals.
