Tuk Tuks set to bring us the gap year experience at uni
Could Nottingham Cars be a thing of the past?
You might be seeing tuk tuk-like rides on the roads by April next year as one company are bringing the vehicles over to us.
Triketastic are set to launch their bright yellow motorbike and VW Beetle hybrids in Nottingham next Easter.
Following their test drive around the city back in February, they’re set to be a great alternative to the ordinary taxi ride home.
Founder of the edgy trikes, Andy Milne told the Nottingham Post: “We are still going through the private hire licensing process.
“I have contacted Nottingham City Council and asked them for some information about the process we need to go through.
“We are trying to establish our licence in Liverpool first and when we get through that process we can try Nottingham.
“Once we get our private hire licence I think we will be up and running by early next year, maybe Spring.”
Seven months later and the dream is still to become a reality, although executives at the firm are hopeful to get the vehicles on the roads soon.
“I think there’s a lot of potential,” Milne added, expressing a keen interest in our “cool” city.
Dr Nick Owen MBE, development manager for Nottingham’s Creative Quarter, is all for the Thai style transport, having already helped the set up in Liverpool last year.
He said: “We have been talking to Triketastic since February and following their progress with interest,” he said.
“They have had a lot of financial and political support in Liverpool, certainly I think paving the way for setting up an operation in Nottingham as well.
“We are right behind getting them established in Nottingham and are working with them to make that happen.
“But at the moment we are in the hands of the licensing authorities.”
