Police will be conducting unannounced sniffer dog raids in all freshers’ accommodation over the next few weeks.

An email from NTU, seen by The Tab has revealed the university are planning to crack down on drug use in halls following a series of raids and expulsions of current freshers.

Every fresher living in halls received an email last Monday referring to instances where students have been removed from their residence for the possession of drugs.

The email said: “The university works extremely closely with the police on such matters, and is currently planning a series of visits by highly-trained sniffer dogs across all residences over the coming weeks and months. These visits will not be announced.

“You may be aware that in several instances this year, students found to be in possession of drugs in residences have been removed from their residence and either sent home, or required to reside elsewhere.

Who snaked?

“Any student found engaging in such activity can expect to face formal disciplinary action by the university, which may include removal from their place of residence, and/or referral to a formal disciplinary hearing for serious misconduct.”

Unconfirmed rumours on YikYak claim that so far a number of freshers have been removed from the Byron Residence, and possibly others for having as little as £10 of weed in their possession.
