The mighty Trent celebrates a DOUBLE VICTORY over Notts in varsity football
Our women’s and men’s teams both beat ‘Uni Of’
Nottingham Trent women’s and men’s football teams both defeated “Uni Of” rivals in the 2016 Nottingham Varsity Series, meaning the series score now stands at Trent 6 – 8 UoN. With volleyball, futsal, rugby league, men’s lacrosse and cricket still left to play, the varsity series is still up for grabs.
Women’s football kicked off at 4.30pm, but, despite their great efforts the 90 minutes finished goalless. However, Trent Women later won 4-3 in penalties meaning they are the varsity champions for the fourth consecutive year.
Men’s football kicked off at 7.30pm with Trent supporters chanting about “Uni Of’s” meagre support. Trent player, Amu, scored 33 seconds after kick-off, sending supporters into a frenzy of cheers and chants. Trent remained in control and scored a second goal in the seventeenth minute, this time by Junkovic. A third goal for Trent by Rae occurred just before half time giving Trent a 3-0 lead. The first half finished 3-0 with Trent supporters chanting “Are you Villa in disguise?”.
The second half began on a low for Trent supporters as it was revealed they’d drank the bar dry. Nevertheless, Trent’s support remained high as the Men’s football team stayed in front. The 70th minute gave UoN a consolation goal, although, this wasn’t enough to beat the mighty Trent.
In the final minutes of the game Trent supporters began chanting “ON THE PITCH” – which was put into action after the final whistle. Trent men won 3-1 and were crowned Varsity Football Champions for the fifth year in a row.
Trent supporters then invaded the pitch, despite several warnings by Meadow Lane’s tannoy and a number of stewards tackling students to the ground at the edge of the pitch.
This just shows that Trent are better than “Uni Of” in every way – even support.
