I spent a week trying to emulate Kendall Jenner

What would Kendall Jenner do?

Getting that summer body is the number one thing on my mind when summer approaches. I’ve been at school eating fried food take out, snacking when it’s not necessary, and stress eating like no other. The teenage skinny is gone, the Abercrombie shorts no longer fit, and my weight is at an all time high than it’s ever been before.

All I can think about is laying on the beach reading all the trashy magazines looking at the celebrities hating myself for that bagel I ate this morning. I remember right after winter break I weighed more than I ever had. Like any girl I thought I was invincible, the freshman 15 is just an urban myth right? Wrong.

It happens to the best of us, and the excuses of living on a big campus and walking everywhere burning all the stress eating off is no longer usable. Handling 18 credits, a social life, homework and exams is a lot on top of trying to make time for the gym.

After winter break I switched everything up: I started buying healthier groceries, and started going to the gym since I really had no excuse because it actually was right across the street from my off campus house.

However the task of getting there is one thing, walking in seeing all the skinny sorority girls, and the meat head frat guys lifting hundreds of pounds is the most intimidating thing to see on your first day of your new body challenge. Trying to figure out the new machines and trying to figure out the weight you can handle can make you feel like the stupidest person in the gym and can make anyone feel self conscious as if you weren’t feeling that already right?!

At school I mainly did cardio because of the self consciousness I felt about lifting. Once I got home for the summer I promised myself this was going to change. But it’s hard not to get sucked into wanting to look like a particular celebrity – I’m guilty of it, too.

I decided I wanted to emulate the Kendall Jenner body or get somewhere close to that. After all she is the new up and coming super model and famous for simply being beautiful and what girl doesn’t wanna be beautiful like Kendall Jenner? I got a gym membership to LA Fitness, started myself on a diet, and started eating healthier. This is not an easy feat, and it is much easier said than done.

The other day I even tried a diet drink, you know one of those sketchy ones on those sketchy weight loss websites that you swore you’d never sink that low to, but at this point, why not. This drink was made with lemon, cinnamon, honey, and apple cider vinegar. It was supposed to curve appetite and get all the bad toxins out of your body – whatever those are.

I have to say this was the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted. The combination of cider and straight lemon was too bitter and sweet at the same time, enough to make anyone wanna vomit. All while drinking it, I was thinking to myself: what would Kendall Jenner do? I bet she could down this no problem – she says she drinks 12 cups of detox tea a day.

Needless to say I gave this drink a shot, I sipped on it, tiny bit by very tiny bit, until ultimately after complaining to my boyfriend about it, I gave up. The question is, would an official brand of cleansing drinks be any better? Going to the grocery store is a whole different ball game now walking away from the ice cream like Kendall Jenner turns away from the end of the cat walk in her Victoria’s Secret lingerie.

So far this WWKJ minute works for me. Some people might see this as shallow but if it motivates me to stay healthy and eat well and head to the gym then I’ll keep with it. I’m at the gym for about two hours every day and loving it, I feel amazing after I’m done, I feel so accomplished. I haven’t had much progress since it takes a while to actually see changes on the scale converting from fat to muscle but the first part of the WWKJ mindset is a positive one.

It’s a careful balance you have to be yourself, and not get too carried away with a celebrity body type. You have to remember it’s not 100 percent realistic, but the motivation works! This mindset might not be for everyone but I encourage everyone to fit and healthy this summer.
