Donald Trump signed my Make America Great Again hat

I luckily got to meet the man

We can all agree that a Donald Trump rally is an experience – whether that’s a fun or disastrous one. Mr Trump recently visited Pittsburgh and 4,000 of his supporters gathered to listen to him speak. However, this rally was a bit different than most. There were almost no protestors. This was surprising. Because of this, the event went a bit differently than the average Trump rally.

From the minute that supporters arrived in the parking lot, they claimed to be treated extremely well. We spoke to Michael Yorgey, who volunteered at the Trump rally in order to fulfill a dream of personally meeting the Donald. This is what happened.

“I thought that the Trump rally, in its entirety, was a fun experience. Although fun is not something one can measure objectively, I can assure it was a very safe and welcoming atmosphere. The Secret Service and the local police presence alone were enough to project a safe presence at the event. My job was in parking: to help get all cars nicely and tightly packed in an open field at the Atlantic Aviation hangar at the Pittsburgh International Airport.

“The other volunteers were nice, answering every question asked to them by rally goers in a friendly manner. Of course one has to wonder what talk of protesters is like over on the Trump camp. Speaking for this particular area, no one had any hostile tone toward the few protesters, with the only questions were people being generally curious if protesters will show up. Fortunately, no one showed up to the event to cause any disruptions.

“We headed inside the hangar around 90 minutes before Trump arrived, and I was able to get into the VIP section. As the music shifted around the time Trump’s plane was to arrive, the excitement immediately lit up in the crowd. The music, in my opinion, was a very interesting choice. Its very robust and loud use of brass instruments made it sound like a king was going to enter. It truly makes one wonder about the loyalty the man garnered from many.

The Arrival

“As Trump landed and walked to his podium, the crowd roared to greet their candidate. Trump was his traditional rally self, talking about trade, as well as quoting Hillary Clinton in a funny, yet mocking tone. Trump went over updating the military by talking about a recent article where the military was using parts from discarded equipment into current weapons. Trump said he would increase spending in order to more modernize the US arsenal.

Unification of Americans

“On a surprising note, Trump really hit hard on the point to unify all groups for this election. Trump said how it really did not matter who or what that American is, just that his vision of a better America includes all Americans. This really rang true to the crowd, as the cheering peaked when he made these statements. This does not come as a surprise considering that since his foreign policy speech, his approach is America first.

The End

“Trump finished off his rally by saying how we will be proud of our president and our country. This was met with much excitement as many were now ready to try to get to meet the Don. I, luckily, got to meet the man. He signed my hat that I had bought from his vendor inside the hangar. He noticed it was one of his own hats, to which I replied ‘Yes sir!’ To be fair, the large amount of Make America Great Again hats roaming around at rallies are due in part to vendors. The stitchings, fonts, and types of hats try to mirror that of some of the hats sold by Trump.

“I wanted to meet Trump and actually get a picture and shake his hand, but I didn’t get that far. I also wish I had the time to tell him ‘thank you’ for getting me involved in politics because of the upheaval he has brought to the scene. Hopefully I am able to meet him again or, by some miracle, able to sit and actually talk to him. I, too, want to see the man behind it all and see what he truly believes for this country.”
