Why in the world are some Bernie supporters now voting for Trump?

What planet are they on

| UPDATED

With Hillary Clinton clenching the presumptive nomination, many are scratching their head in a confused daze as to why Bernie chooses to remain in the race.

And then there’s the case of former Bernie supporters transitioning into a Trump induced frenzy since their fav Vermont senator didn’t clench the nom.

Yeah, you heard me.

Those same supporters aren’t backing Hill, they’re turning to a new candidate: The Donald.

In fact, the newly converted Trump supporters not only condone Hillary, they straight up hate her.

Instead of going #ImWithHer they’ve transitioned to the polarized opposite. If a hashtag would trend among them, it’d be something like: #IHateHer or #HillarytheHeathen.

But why?

How does one go from one end of the political spectrum to the exact opposite?

To some extent, I get it. By no means is Hillary the angel that Bernie is: but, to back Trump after supporting Sanders doesn’t make sense mainly because their ideologies are so, so different. If the only reason that you’re voting for Trump is because Sanders didn’t receive the nomination, please reconsider. At the very least, do yourself a favor and check out his platform.

Bernie understands why many of his supporters can’t bear to back Hillary after the unfair advantage she had over him. Despite Sander’s favorability as a candidate, many claim that Hillary was favored from the start. With the amount of media coverage that Hillary received, the statement admittedly does seem to have a hint of truth.

The thing is, Bernie hasn’t been denouncing Clinton – he’s been denouncing Trump. I’m willing to bet that even though Hillary beat him, Bernie would willingly vote for Hillary any day over The Donald. But supporters of Bernie simply don’t agree with this philosophy.

This is precisely why Bernie is choosing to stay – in hopes of pushing reform for the Democratic Party. Bernie is urging for unity within the party to fight Trump, but in order to coalesce unity within the party, Sanders may have to reconsider his position. As we can see, with Bernie supporters flocking to Trump, this is anything but unity.

If anything, cast your vote for Gary Johnson, the third-party candidate that everyone always rules out; and yet, has gained a lot of traction amongst Sanders supporters. That’s because the libertarian nominee has confirmed that he shares a lot of similar values to Sanders.

Johnson has even spoke up for marijuana after Mitt Romney bashed it last week. Romney proclaimed that smoking marijuana “makes people stupid”. And Johnson retaliated: “As someone who has used marijuana, I do not agree with that.”

Bang bang. That’s definitely a big confession from anyone running in a presidential race. After all, everyone refers to Jeb Bush as Jeb Kush nowadays after some angsty confessions during politicized debates. Sorry, Jeb – I still think you’re cool. Sorta.

At the end of the day, it’s easy to remember that Bernie never was, and never will, be a Trump supporter.

And who knows – maybe he’s right.
