Young people are refusing to vote for Trump in huge numbers

They’d rather see Hillary in office

More and more young people are refusing to vote for Donald Trump.

A recent USA Today/Rock The Vote poll found 56 percent of young people said they would prefer to vote for Hillary Clinton, compared to just 18 percent for Trump.

It seems Republican voters under the age of 35 are finding trouble supporting Trump, who is polling even worse among young people than Richard Nixon did in the 70s.

Washington Post pundit Michael Gerson explained why Trump is polling terribly with young people:

“I would venture that Trump’s failure among the young has something to do with his assault on the idea of tolerance, particularly racial and religious tolerance. Younger voters are less likely than other age groups to regard racially inclusive language as ‘politically correct.’ They are less likely to believe in ‘reverse discrimination’ and to embrace anti-immigrant attitudes. And, according to the USA Today/Rock the Vote survey, they were not impressed by the GOP nominee’s convention speech. By more than two to one, younger voters said it made Trump seem less human and accessible.”

Hillary voter Taylor, 20, a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, added: “I think young people are really conscious of social issues – they want to have an idealistic view of society – and Donald Trump tends to be discriminatory. It’s hard to vote for Trump when you believe in the American dream and equality, because he doesn’t represent it.”

Bernie Sanders supporters, following his example of endorsing Hillary, are contributing to some of her success.

Now 72 percent of Bernie fans plan to vote for Hillary, according to the USA Today survey, while just 11 percent refuse to vote altogether.

Interestingly, 11 percent also say they’re going to vote for Trump, while six percent still don’t know.
