Adam Ruins Everything attack college rankings as ‘a crock’
‘It forces schools to seem better instead of be better’
Harry ShukmanAdam, you know, that guy from Adam Ruins Everything, came out swinging against college rankings in his latest show, calling them a “popularity contest."
He denounces US News & World Report, which publishes a ranking of colleges every year, as “pseudoscientific."
Adam says they weight categories like academic reputation, financial resources and graduate rate performance however they want – hence the pseudoscience.
Schools get really worked up when they slip down in the rankings – rightly so, as it can affect application numbers, research funding and alumni donations.
