Women’s Center reopens in bigger and brighter new office

And they’ve got a surefire way to make Mondays less horrible

Women’s leadership has become increasingly prevalent at Boston College this past year.

Last March, BC hosted its inaugural Own It Summit, a day that brought together hundreds of students and professionals who #ownit in their respective fields. And Women in Business is hosting and co-sponsoring empowering events left and right. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright will serve as the inaugural speaker for the new Council for Women of Boston College Colloquium.

This growth in interest isn’t expected to slow down anytime soon. This past Tuesday, the Boston College Women’s Center reopened shop in a new office located on Maloney’s fourth floor.

With the goal of increasing accessibility to students, the Center is launching initiatives based on the slogan “Empowering Women. Inspiring All.”

The Center hosted an open house on Tuesday

Bella Valentini, a student staff member at the Center, said: “Our goals for the Women’s Center this year are to continue building a community of understanding, education and empowerment here at Boston College.

“Our new home in Maloney 441 is bigger and brighter, and we hope that individuals of all backgrounds and experiences come visit to engage in thoughtful dialogue and experience all that the Women’s Center has to offer.

“Plus, with Hillside now being beneath us, Cookie Monday has reached new heights!”

An open invitation for cookies every Monday – that’s dependability when you need it.

The Center recently introduced Rise, a mentorship program that connects junior and senior women with female faculty members to discuss and reflect on issues facing Boston College women.

In addition to programs like Rise, the Center is helping put on high-attendance events, such as Amy Cuddy’s upcoming talk in Robsham.

Teresa Sullivan, another student staff member, summed it all up: “We’re amping up our presence.”
