Hockey’s Miles Wood talks pregame rituals and season goals

Excited to play BU, as he should be

This past weekend, hockey’s win against Colorado College (now we’re 4-1 overall) lightened the blow of football’s loss to Louisville.

The Tab sat down with freshman Miles Wood, a left wing forward for the Eagles. The Manchester, MA native is currently undecided on his major, but decided that BC is going to take home the national championship this season.

What do you love about BC hockey?

I love the tradition and history behind it. There have been so many great, memorable wins and championships.

What are the goals for the season?

Winning the national championship.

What are you most excited about for this season? What game are you most excited/nervous for?

Enjoying the wins with the guys and hopefully winning the national championships. [I’m most excited for] the BU game.

What is it like to play for Coach Jerry York? What kind of coach is he?

He is a quiet coach,  but definitely expects a lot from his players. He holds high standards for his team and with his reputation in the hockey world, I feel very lucky to be playing for him. It is special opportunity.

How have you individually been adjusting to the team? What are you focusing on?

So far it has been pretty easy. I have the help and support of the older players who have been in my shoes, so they have made it an easy transition for me.

I am trying to improve each day and get stronger. Overall, I am trying to improve and definitely trying to build stronger relationships with my teammates.

Describe Jerry York in one word.

Passionate.

What’s the NHL draft like?

I was in it my sophomore year of high school, so I was relatively young. I decided to stay home so I didn’t get the full experience, but I was surrounded by the people I love. I watched it on TV with my whole family, so it was still a really special experience.

What has been your favorite experience in hockey so far?

I played in the World Championships in high school and got to represent the US in Canada.

Do you have a pregame ritual?

No personal rituals, but as a team, we stretch and pray together.

Coolest place you’re traveled to for hockey?

Montreal for the World Championships

Favorite women’s sport team?

The World Cup Soccer Team
