We asked students about their most outrageous Uber rides

‘I helped plan my Uber driver’s wedding’

Uber can be the quickest and most direct way to navigate around the city.

But when things go wrong, they go really wrong.

Nobody’s perfect, Uber drivers included, but some of these stories will have you running to take the B line.

The Tab chatted with some BC students who relived their most uncomfortable Uber experiences during their time in the Boston area.

“My dad called an Uber to take him to work because he was headed to the airport for business straight after work. The Uber got to our house, and my dad put his workbag packed with his laptop and all of his travel gear in the back seat along with his suit jacket, closed the door, and walked around to the other side to get in. Before he could get into the car, the driver left without him.

After calling the police and filing a report, I ended up driving him to work. When we were almost there, the Uber driver called him and said that he was on some strong cold medicine and never even realized he wasn’t in the car!

The driver ended up dropping the bag off at the office and still charging my dad for the trip.

“My Uber driver was planning his wedding to his long distance fiancée, so at every red light he turned around and showed me pictures of possible wedding options asking my opinion.

He had a whole folder of flowers and menu themes for me to look at.”

Chris Whalen, Junior, Accounting

“Once I was riding with a group of people to Harvard in a van, and we were in stop and go traffic. We came up to a crosswalk and a man walking his dog started walking across the street. The driver either didn’t notice or didn’t care about the guy crossing and almost hit him. The man was so angry he screamed at us and then kicked the side of the van before we drove off.”

Sarah Ashmore, Junior, Economics

“A group of us were coming back from Harvard freshman year very late in the night… It was during the biggest snow storm of the year and we ordered an UberXL home.  We ended up having a girl that was visiting BC order it, it was a 6x surge and ended up being $145 to take us back to Upper. We had to venmo the poor girl who paid for the whole thing the next day.”

Bennett Cooper, Senior, Honors Finance & History minor

“A few weeks ago I was taking an Uber home from work in the afternoon, and this middle aged man picked me up. He started asking me about who I was going to vote for, only referencing Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. He then immediately segued into asking if I went to raves frequently, mentioning that he was willing to sell me some Molly right then at 4pm.”

Maddi Malliard, Junior, English & Marketing

“After a semi-formal dance freshman year a friend and I requested an Uber to take us back from off-campus. While we are waiting, a random car pulled over in front of us, so we got into it. We asked him to take us back to Upper Campus so he did, no questions asked. When we looked at the Uber receipt the next morning we realized that the car we got into wasn’t even an Uber, it was just a random guy.”

Madeline Simone, Sophomore, Marketing

“I asked my Uber driver to take me to the nearest pizza place, and she said ‘Yeah! I could go for a slice!'”
