Why the Eagles’ loss to ND is still a win to me

How will Notre Dame face future competition with such a weak execution?

This weekend, I had the privilege of attending the legendary Boston College vs. Notre Dame football game. Boston College and Notre Dame have been rivals for years now, so earning the big W was crucial for either team’s reputation.

Unfortunately, Notre Dame barely defeated the Eagles ending the game with a close 19-16 score. (That’s still a win in our book). That being said, while the game was technically considered a home game for Notre Dame, the BC superfans still managed to crank up the volume in the stadium to cheer on the Eagles. There were significantly less BC fans in the stadium yet that did not stop us from making as much noise as possible and remaining enthusiastic and optimistic throughout the game.

While we can sit around and mope about our (technical) loss, we can also take a close look at the stats and take our hats off to our team who held their own on the field.

BC racked in a whopping three interceptions and did an incredible job at holding the offense until the second half. Notre Dame’s famous wide receiver Will Fuller struggled with his catching game dropping three major passes in the game.

BC’s top rush defense should be commended for their phenomenal work at holding the Irish until the last minutes of the game.

While we can dwell on the Eagles loss, we can also celebrate over the fact that the Notre Dame squad is probably currently shaking in their cleets unsure how they will face future competition with such a weak execution.

A fourth ranked team barely beating a 3-7 team—that’s proof that it must be the luck of the Irish…

Not only was Beantown the best host for one of football’s most historic rivalries at Fenway Park, but we also welcomed the Indiana natives with open arms (even though most BC students are still bitter over the shortage of tickets available).

I was surrounded by all the BC fans who throughout the game constantly high-fived myself and all the fellow Eagles in our section. The solidarity and unity that was so evident in the student section made me so grateful to be an Eagle, regardless of the score on the big screen.
