The best political costumes from Halloweekend at Boulder
Doesn’t get much scarier than these
This Halloween, the costumes are spookier than usual. I am talking about the parodies of our presidential nominees, notably Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. We can all agree seeing a bloody skeleton in the front of a dark, creepy mansion is possibly for the first time less scary than a top political candidate. Boulderites seized the opportunity to at least get some humor out of the election, even if we are all greatly unsatisfied with out presidential options.
Mike, a Boulder resident
Mike strut around Pearl Street with his not so inconspicuous Secret Service Team. When asked who he plans to vote for, he replied with a rhetorical question: “Do you understand the concept of a parody?” In other words, he was not flaunting Trump’s famous pursed lip pose, but instead, mocking it.
Jamie Swanson of CU Boulder
Jamie was more direct with her costume than Mike’s parody. “Trump can grab this,” her shirt reads.
James Dunken, a Boulder resident
The afternoon of Halloween Day attracts hundreds of local residents to venture shop to shop on Pearl Street trick-or-treating. James was playing a “political superhero” as he coined it. Taking advantage of the large crowed, he was passing out bumper stickers for Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate for this year’s election.
Mike, a Boulder resident
Mike tried to remain bipartisan, by promoting a candidate no one dislikes: Kenneth Bone. Mr. Bone became an Internet sensation following the second presidential debate between Trump and Clinton. The country was so outraged by the performance of the presidential candidates, the public voluntarily handed the winning title of the debate over to “Ken.”
Ken only said a few sentences on television, but he won the heart of thousands of Americans. So much so, in fact, some are rooting for his candidacy. What does this tell us about our current options?
Matthew, left, CU Engineer, Junior, and Matthew, right, a Broomfield resident
The two men have more in common than just their name. They are making a political statement on Pearl Street during this year’s Halloween with custom made T-Shirts. The front of the shirt reads “Trump Pence 2016” with the back sporting “Impeach Trump 2017.” The two created and ordered the shirts on their own.
Cali, a Boulder resident
Cali’s costume is a more subtle. Her name-tag reads “Nasty Woman” satirizing Donald Trump’s comments in the third and final presidential debate. The other pins on her shirt say “slut shaming” with an X through the words, “consent,” and other pin says “it’s your choice…not theirs” referring to Trump’s stance on abortion. In these few pins and name tags comes a heavy message supporting women’s rights.
