Can love be found at Hunter?
‘Who’s gonna fall in love in poly sci?’
Dating is difficult at any college. You don’t know how to start up a conversation with that cute guy in your English class. You’re not even sure if he’s single. A lot of college students are opting out of relationships and comfortably accepting the status friends with benefits.
Some students believe that being in an open, no commitment relationship is easier than being in one which is more traditional. Apps like Tinder and Bumble have made it easier for students to find others interested in casual hook ups, and Hunter is no exception.
Hunter students face many adversities when it comes to dating. Like many commuter schools, one of Hunter’s problem is that the only people they’re meeting is kids in their classes. Is there hope to finding love at Hunter College?
Grace, Dance, Freshman
“I haven’t seen an A1 guy that made me stop in the hallway and be like shit. It’s a very high school atmosphere. You’re constrained to the people in your classes. I was [in the dorms] downstairs in the kitchen making a gourmet meal and this guy who clearly gives off a f-boy vibe started hitting on me and I was clearly not interested and then randomly he was like do you want to Netflix and chill and I blatantly said no.”
Junior, Psychology, Senior
“No serious relationships. I’m a pimp”
Erica, Accounting, Freshman
“There’s no dating life. No one talks to each other. Everyone walks past each other. One guy sat next to me in my political science class and told me a joke about 9/11. I should’ve known. He texted me and we went to get coffee. It was awkward. He was very immature. He actually texted me saying ‘what’s up gangster?’”
Charles, Chinese language and Philosophy and minor in Public Policy, Junior
“Who’s gonna fall in love in poly sci? I met my girlfriend on Tinder. I wrote ‘What’s cooking good looking.’ It’s harder to date at Hunter. You have to carve out time to hang out.”
Matt, Political Science and Economics and minor in Public Policy, Junior
“We [my girlfriend and I] met in the dorms. She’s on the swim team and I have some friends on the team and she thought I was cute cause I am cute.”
Tom, Political Science and Enviornmental Studies, Junior
“Not trying to get attached to someone. Not apart of the game plan. You have to go through other outlets. You’re not gonna meet someone at Hunter. ”
