GoFundMe raises $25,000 for UF law student injured in Las Vegas shooting
Kristin Babik was one of the hundreds injured in one of the deadliest shootings in U.S. history
Gainesville locals and UF students have come together to show support for UF law student Kristin Babik after she was wounded in the Las Vegas shooting.
On Sunday night, Babik was among the many at the Route 91 music festival. She was near the stage when gunman Stephen Paddock fired bullets from his balcony at the Mandalay Bay hotel, and she was shot in the back. Babik's injury required her to be hospitalized, creating a financial burden for her and her family.
In response, a GoFundMe has been set up. Since its creation on October 3rd, a little over $25,000 has been raised out of a $100k goal.
The creator of the page writes,
"Kristin was at the Route 91 music festival last night. Flying in from Florida for the weekend she expected a fun time with good music and time spent with friends. Instead of that, she experienced the worst imaginable experience, she was hit by a bullet from a stranger she had never met or harmed. Kristin is currently in the hospital in stable condition, with very serious injuries and a lot of pain. Her mother is flying in from Florida and she will have to be in Vegas for some time to recover. Anything that you can contribute will be spent responsibly and with respect, all the money going directly to a Kristin and her mother to handle this unexpected extreme financial (and physical, mental, emotion) burden."
