UPDATE: Police suspect death at Villa Lucia to be a suicide

Multiple gun shots were heard early Saturday afternoon

Update: Tallahassee police believe the death at Villa Lucia is linked to a suicide. It is reported that an officer near the apartment complex heard gunshots at the same time a 911 call was made by a panicking female in which gunshots were heard in the background. Police suspect the two occurrences are related to a suicide.

Upon entering the scene, police could hear a woman screaming accompanied by the sound of a gunshot. The police shattered a glass window and entered the apartment. Inside, a man was found dead from what appeared to be a result from a gunshot wound that was self-inflicted and an unhurt woman. The police reported there were no others injured and no sincere threat to others who live in the surrounding area. The police are still investigating the incident.

Officers have warned residents about a possible gun-related incident near Villa Lucia, residents were firmly told to stay inside as there is an active threat to their well-being.

Tab reporter Emma Shaffer is currently on the scene where the incident is.

“We were in an apartment when three total gunshots were heard. As we looked out the window we immediately began to hear sirens and see lights. We ran outside to Bellevue Way and noticed five officers with their guns drawn and pointing to a specific apartment. The police yelled for us to return inside when they saw us, and after returning inside we noticed more officers coming onto the scene. In total there are about ten officers with assault rifles surrounding a specific building and they look to be taking cover.”

There is an ambulance and a fire truck on the scene. Shouts from officers could be heard to “get on the ground” and “get back” to students who were walking out of their apartments soon after.

We have contacted Tallahassee PD for comment.
